This morning’s regular run to the coffee shop has never precluded my prayer time. It has though afforded me opportunities to chat with friends and of course to enjoy a locally roasted coffee!
In about 20 minutes, I’ll be catching a bus back home and spend about an hour saying my version of the Jesus Prayer. That hour, over the past three and a half years has slowly yielded minor transformations. My highest priority was simply quieting down that chronic internal conversation.
My common conversation is slowly quieting down. By each step in my prayer life I have come to see that internal tête-à-tête as the curtains the Wizard of Oz hid behind. It is a relief, coming to know my God hasn’t withdrawn but rather I am the one keeping himself isolated.
