A vigil has begun

It was, a little after two, this morning that mom woke me up, saying that we needed to go down to the nursing home. She had received a call saying that dad was unresponsive and needed his oxygen substantially increased. Of course, a nursing home only calls that early in the morning, when a resident is in need of a run to the hospital or is in that last stage of life.

Dad was then and is still unresponsive, as we sit around his bed, listening to a constant gurgling noise, as he tries to breath. His O2 saturation level is unsafe, even with his oxygen being turned up to 5 liters. My hope is that his last and now unresponsive few hours of life are not prolonged.
